What happens at Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?2023-05-04T19:15:16+00:00

Your first visit will be an assessment We’ll look at your medical history, symptoms, posture, movements, and how your body works including muscle tone, flexibility, strength, and stability. We identify factors that might be contributing to your problem.

Your next several visits will be focused on finding ways to address these contributing factors. We do that by:

Getting the affected tissue healthy
Addressing movement patterns that are out of balance.
Looking for habits you have that perpetuate the problem.
Making a plan for maintaining your improvements.

What do you actually do at pelvic floor therapy?2023-05-04T19:14:51+00:00

We use the same principles that we use for rehab in any other part of the body. But we have to be gentle, professional, and compassionate because of the sensitive nature of the area we are treating.

Techniques we commonly use to treat contributing factors that lead to pelvic symptoms are:

– Manual therapy
– Stretching
– Strengthening
– Dry Needling
– Movement therapy
– Relaxation Training
– Lifestyle and diet recommendations
– Sleep and Stress management
– Targeted muscle coordination re-training
– Electric Muscle Stimulation (E-Stim)
– Cryo- therapy

We include a lot of education for patients to help them understand their symptoms and have better strategies to manage them when they are away from therapy.

How long will I have to go to therapy?2023-05-04T19:11:03+00:00

Of course, plans for recovery can vary widely for a variety of reasons. Treatments are often received once per week initially, and then tapered or modified as you improve. In most cases, you should expect to see some improvements within 3-5 visits. Many people report a full recovery within 8-10 weeks. Chronic Conditions would likely take longer for recovery.

I don’t think I have a pelvic floor problem, but I have pain. Can you help?2023-05-04T19:18:03+00:00

Yes! We take chronic pain seriously. We have special training in pelvic floor rehab and chronic pain in all areas of the body. Complex patients are welcome. We are not a traditional orthopedic physical therapy clinic, and common orthopedic issues may be best served at a different practice.

We have effective techniques for chronic pain and often can dig deeper to find the root cause for problems that traditional exercise based physical therapy did not fully address.

Please feel free to call 336-414-2050 or email office@reliefpt.com to inquire.
