Notice to Medicare Beneficiaries

Thank you for your interest in Relief Physical Therapy, LLC, for your physical therapy needs. We are an exclusively out-of-network practice. Unfortunately, due to strict guidelines, we cannot provide Medicare beneficiaries with physical therapy services that are covered by Medicare. However, we can provide services that are NOT covered by Medicare, including wellness services and physical therapy for sexual dysfunction. Relief Physical Therapy tries to be a resource for our community and to those who need care. And we are disappointed that the law prohibits us from offering a larger selection of services to Medicare beneficiaries.

For the many that are affected, the issue is as follows:

Physical Therapy is a paid benefit under Medicare in many instances. Medicare pays for your physical therapy treatment when the service is considered “medically necessary.” This is a governmentally funded program, backed by federal laws. The law requires physical therapists to submit a claim to Medicare whenever they treat a Medicare beneficiary for any qualified reason. But because we have chosen not to enroll in Medicare, we cannot submit claims to Medicare for your care. If we treated you anyway, we could face legal repercussions.

Of course, one option would be for Relief PT to enroll with Medicare, which we have considered. But in order to enroll, Relief PT would have to agree to Medicare’s myriad of payment and treatment requirements. This would fundamentally alter our philosophy of care. So, for now, we remain non-enrolled with Medicare. Please contact us if you have questions about whether we can help with your specific situation.

Sincerely,

Holly McDonald, PT
