The Gastrointestinal – Pelvic Floor Connection

The Gastrointestinal – Pelvic Floor Connection

A missing piece of the puzzle

A missing piece of the puzzle

Our GI Tract, bowels, and the pelvic floor work closely together to help us manage waste.

The GI tract use smooth muscle (involuntary control) and the pelvic floor uses skeletal muscle (voluntary control) to move food along the path and remove it from the body. When these are not working together you can get hard stools, runny stools, or even a mixture of both.
